Everybody Knows

This group exhibition featuring four extraordinary California fine artists who share West Marin influences.

Individually and collectively, their work evokes dreams and memories. Like a journey into the subconscious, each artist weaves a visual story through painting, ceramics and mixed media. Curated by Marie Bernadette, an outsider looking in, she has admired and followed these artists for over 30 years.

Artists: Karen Barbour, Gordon Bryan, Jasper Sheff, and Inez Storer.

ANCESTORS & THE LAND: LEARNING TO SPEAK THE LANGUAGE OF WEST MARIN

This enthralling group show was created in conjunction with the Geography of Hope Conference. It combines photographs of the past with the work of local artists, cartographers, and photographers engaged in creating today's language of place. The Coast Miwok people dwelt on this coast for thousands of years before waves of newcomers—humans and plants and animals travelling from great distances—first lapped the shore, then flooded in. Each has a story. Each left its mark. Each got entangled with the other. By following the traces our ancestors left on the land and revisiting the fragments of stories and images they’ve passed down to us, we can better understand our responsibilities to the land and to each other. Curated by Kitty Whitman. At Toby’s Gallery. Now through March 29.
